Matching Mittens

    HelloπŸ‘‹πŸ˜€

How is everyone feeling now that Blogtober is over and November is here? I've got to say, I have not been missing trying to post a blog everyday - it's exhausting!🫩

Something I mentioned in some of last month's posts was a project I was trying to get finished for a specific weekend and in the end didn't. Well, it has now been finished and the person it was meant for has received it and so now I can tell you about it!

I wanted to make my Sister something for her Birthday and I had the perfect thing in mind, and I had the yarn to do it with, and I started making in plenty of time to get it finished. But, we weren't going to be seeing her until a week or so after her Birthday, so I sort of put off working on it for a while. Too long a while as it turned out and I only managed to get half the present made in time, and there was no way I was going to rush it and give her something substandard.

But, fast forward a couple of weeks or so and...Ta dah!!

Fingerless Mittens!

Those of you with a good memory will remember the Bobble Hat I made earlier in the year in the same colours, and it seemed quite logical to make a pair of mittens to go with it. The pattern for these came from the book "Simple Chic Crochet" by Susan Ritchie and Karen Miller of Mrs. Moon, published by CICO Books, and I had previously made a pair for my Mother so I knew roughly what I was doing. Which does make a change....

It's actually quite an easy pattern to follow and make and for me the most time consuming part was the ribbing for the wrist, made slightly more awkward by the dark colour of yarn and the sometimes unruly metallic thread. Back Loop Only Double Crochet (UK Terms) does make a marvellous rib though and I find it quite an enjoyable technique to use and work.

Back to Front

The pattern is for one size, worked with a 4mm hook but knowing my Sister's hands are on the small side, I opted to use a 3mm hook in the hope that it would make a smaller, yet still fitting item.

And I'm pleased to say it worked! Apparently they fit perfectly (one is a little tighter than the other) and don't need any tweaking! Phew!😌

It was also a nice surprise for her as well as she had no idea that she was getting them! I hadn't even mentioned that there was a present missing, or that I'd been making something but it wasn't finished yet! I hope they put a smile on her face when she unwrapped them, that was the intention after all.

Well that's another make done!πŸ˜€ What will be next I wonder?πŸ€”

See you next time,

ByeeeπŸ‘‹πŸ˜„
