Blogtober 2025 : Post 4
Good Morning!ππ
Did you notice I've had a comment on one of my posts? Many Thanks to Caz for taking the time to write!π
Now this third project took it's time to develop. I actually started it before Christmas (last year), hoping to have it made in time for a present, but it didn't work out like that.
It's another hat, and for some reason I really wanted it to be something I had not only made but had worked out too, so I downloaded one of those circular hat size templates (This One) to at least help me get the size right.
I already had the colours chosen in my head, and the type of stitch I wanted to use but when I started... things got trickier. For a start, having retrieved the yarn from its bag, I wasn't sure I'd have enough of it to actually finish the hat! Then, I started playing with the notion of using the two colours together as one yarn - creating a sort of marled effect. And then there was the surprising revelation that I preferred the "wrong side", and that just got me thinking even more!π€―
And, of course, it didn't get finished.
And, of course, I didn't take any photos of what I had done, which is a bit of a bugger because I also frogged it, and now have no record of what it looked like or why I liked what I liked! Can you say "twerp"? I know I can.π
But then, sometime in January I think, I decided on new colours and a simpler technique and eventually finished this:

Simple and elegant don't you think? I'm proper chuffed with it!π₯°
The light purple yarn is King Cole Cotton Top in the colour Jasmin, and the dark purple yarn is actually a sparkly one from Poundland! Although I'm not sure it shows on screen! The ribbing was worked directly onto the hat by turning it 90°, chaining however many I chained (!), and working the rows into the tops of the last round of stitches. Like This. If in doubt, ask Toni, that's what I say!
I gave it to my Sister as a Thank You present and she seemed to really like it, especially the colours!

ReplyDeleteThank you muchly Sally!π
DeleteLove the colour combo! I bet your sister was really pleased with it- its nice to be given something hand made-so much more special than shop bought.
ReplyDeleteYou've reminded me I must take more photos of my ‘makes’…..my socks get photo’d but not much else.
I’m 150 grams into a crocheted shawl which has paused gor a while but you’ve prompted me to pick it up again π
Looking forward to tomorrow’s post to see the next project!
☺️
Thanks Caz! She actually made ME something last yearπ² I must show you! I need to take more photos too, one project I'll be sharing I see everyday, and I still haven't snapped it yetπ I've never made a shawl. Can you finish before the end of Blogtober?
