February...
Hello๐๐
So many people seem to be saying that February has flown by really quickly, so I'm not going to bother. They are right though! It's a bit strange when you consider that although it is the shortest month, it's not actually that much shorter than the others. Perhaps it has something to do with which day of the week it started on? I don't know...
I thought I would catch you up on some of my newest squares for my Sample Squares Lap Blanket. If you have read my last post you will know that this is a slow on-going project, that I'm not in too much of a hurry to finish, but which I have made my focus for the time being.
I haven't knitted for ages (years) so all the new squares are crocheted and although I haven't totalled up yet, I would say that most of the squares in the blanket will be crochet ones.
I'll start with this one:
This was an interesting one to make as I don't think I've ever seen this combination of stitches before. It's really simple; 1st Row = Double Crochet, 2nd Row = Half Treble Crochet, 3rd Row = Treble Crochet. (or if you prefer US terms, Single Crochet, Half Double, Double) Then you just repeat. Sometimes you'll get the front of the stitches on the right side of the fabric, and others you'll get the back-side showing.(!๐ฎ๐ณ!)
This one was interesting:
It's an example of Tunisian Wave Stitch, of which there seem to be a few variations, and it took me a couple of tries before getting it right.
Next, a classic:
Houndstooth Stitch! I've wanted to try this stitch for such a long time but have never had a reason to, so I thought it would be a perfect fit for the sampler blanket. I chose to work it in three colours rather than the usual two really just to increase the interest. The sharp-eyed among you will notice that I had to substitute a slightly different colour towards the top of the square.
I ummmed and ahhhed over this one:
This is Two-Toned Tunisian Simple Stitch, and when I started it I really wasn't sure if I even liked it! As the square grew so did it's appeal, and although it is worked horizontally it also looks really good viewed vertically;
And finally:
Block Stitch. Another favourite of mine, and another classic stitch. Simple, yet so effective and stylish.
And that's it for now. I have started another square and it's another stitch that I have wanted to try for a while. I'll show you that next time.
Till then, Byeeee!๐๐
